Finance conference a boost for Australia
- Frontline - Brief Article
AUSTRALIA'S PUSH to become a global financial
centre will be given a substantial boost next year, with a major
finance conference and expo slated for Sydney next May.
The Charlton Group, through one of its
leading publications Australian Banking and Finance news magazine,
has teamed up with AXISS Australia to present the expo, which
has been timed to integrate with an APEC Business Advisory Council
(ABAC) meeting in early May, 2002. AXISS Australia is the Federal
Government agency dedicated to positioning Australia as a global
financial services centre in the Asian time zone. |
Charlton Group chairman Peter Charlton,
a leading initiator of the concept of Australia as a financial
services centre, says the conference and expo will be an excellent
forum for Australia to spruik its finance credentials to the world.
With the ABAC meeting bringing
some heads of government and other leaders of major corporations
from the Asia Pacific as well as the USA together in Sydney, it
presents a unique opportunity for Australia to tell the world
that we have what it takes to be a serious competitor in financial
services," he said.
Charlton is one of the most recent members
of ABAC, an organisation made up of business leaders from all APEC
member states whose aim is to deliver advice to APEC leaders. Australian
Prime Minister John Howard appointed Charlton to ABAC earlier in
2001.
